The new Black Panther trailer has me shooketh! When I saw the original trailer in June at a bar during the NBA championships, I clapped vigorously. My best friend told me to stop. Did I stop? Yes. But the excitement of seeing all that Black excellence in a film was worth some applause. When was the last time you saw an all-Black superhero movie? I’ll wait. You haven’t, that’s when. I didn’t know I needed Black Panther until now.
The fact of the matter is that even in 2017, it’s still almost a shock to see myself in mainstream media, in a positive and thoughtfully executed manner. My response/excitement towards this film is innate, it’s just something about seeing Black people shining. I was thinking the other day that I couldn’t remember the last time I’d been to the movies, looks like I’ll be back in February. Not on opening night though, too many people make me itch.
