Every Black Girl That Went to College Likes Drake.

No truer words have ever been spoken. If you’re a real Insecure fan, you know who said that and in which episode. Today is my favorite Canadian’s birthday, so Aubrey, this one’s for you. Why do we love Drake? He’s kind, thoughtful and sensitive– but don’t get it twisted, he’ll cause irreparable damage to your fragile rap career Meek Mill.

Drake is like my am-I-old-yet-o-meter. He’s a year older than me, so as long as the kids are still rocking with him, I feel like I’m not too old to do and say certain things. Drake and I became adults together. I listened to his mixtapes in college and like Kevin Hart (eye roll), I watched in awe as he blow-uptuated. I think us college-educated Black girls like Drake because he seems like he has some sense. Or maybe it’s because he loved both Rihanna and Serena Williams (at the same time?), but who can fault him for that?

I think we like Drake because unlike a lot of these busters out here, he feels authentic. We can experience a spectrum of emotions while listening to his music. I’ve cried, laughed, vibed, and got lit, all while listening to his music. Sidebar, y’all remember that am-I-old-yet-o-meter I mentioned earlier? I think it’s been tryna tell me to stop saying “lit,” it just doesn’t feel right anymore. Anyway, happy birthday Drake, from all of us Black girls who went to college.
