I just finished watching this girl watch herself over and over on her own Instagram post. She wasn’t doing anything special, she was just lip-syncing a rap song in her car. Yes, I saw all that. Yes, I’m nosy. Ole’ girl was feeling herself and by the volume of her phone, she wanted everyone in the nail shop to know it. Annoying.
Anyway, I couldn’t be too mad at her because I do the same thing all the time, don’t you? Watching her being amused at herself made me think about how strange that practice is. Why do we do that? Do we want to make sure we don’t seem corny? Making sure a booger isn’t hanging from our nose? When I watch my posts again, I usually do it because I’m funny and want to laugh at myself or because I think I look great. Sometimes I go back to see how many likes I’ve accrued and to make sure the devil isn’t stealing my likes. He’s busy yall, don’t sleep π.
Maybe we do it because social media has made us narcissists and hyper-sensitive to how people perceive us. Or maybe not. Who knows?

Ashli is a wonderful writer ππ
